Accommodation Service
Brief Description
- Since 1953, an accommodation service is provided at 3333 Côte Sainte-Catherine Road, in Montreal, by the ``Résidence Maria-Goretti, a dwelling house. This service is exclusively addressed to adult women, who are responsible, physically autonomous and in good mental health. Its clientele is formed by many students. Service management is ensured by `Société Gère-Loge`.
- The accommodation service provides 220 bedrooms distributed on 5 storeys. Most of the bedrooms are small (around 11 squared meters or 118 squared feet). Some of them are larger (around 16 squared meters or 176 squared feet). Bedrooms are furnished with a bed, a desk, a sink and a wardrobe. There are also some double bedrooms. Bedrooms are locked and every resident is responsible for their bedrooms daily cleaning (or maintenance). This is a non-smoking building.
- Every storey has bathrooms with showers and bathtubs. Sanitary equipment is offered to around 6 residents. Only 4 bedrooms have toilettes.
- It is forbidden to use cooking appliances in the bedrooms. The common kitchen on the 5th floor provides stoves, microwave ovens and toasters. Residents must use and keep their own cutlery in their bedrooms. Residents are authorized to have a one meter height refrigerator, a coffee machine and an electric kettle in their bedrooms. There is no common refrigerator available, but refrigerators can be rented in the residence.
- Phone calls are not transferred to the bedrooms. Residents can, at their own expense, install in their bedrooms a telephone line and the internet. Each storey provides paid telephones. There is no computer that can be shared by the residents.
- Paid washing and drying machines are available in each floor. A television and two daily newspapers are provided for the use of all residents on the 5th floor.
- The receptionist’s duties are to receive the visitors, retain the correspondence, note down telephone messages, and other relevant duties. At night, a security guard takes over and keeps a very close watch on the residence by circulating through each storey. There are restrictions in the residence, mainly concerning visitors, but there are no curfews.
Dwelling Duration and Bedrooms Prices
Bedrooms are mainly rented on a long-term basis, i.e. for a minimum of three months. Depending on its size, its price is either $260 or $300 per month. Some bedrooms are rented on a daily basis. Depending on its size, its price is either $30 or $35 per day.
Conditions Prevailing for Long-Term Dwelling
Adult women aged less than 40 years may dwell on a long-term period. They must either be studying, or working or searching for a job. They must incur a $30 registration fee, and must bring their own sheets, pillowcases and towels unless they decide to rent them in the residence.
